6) If you sign up for the national Do Not Call list, how long will it be before all the telemarketing calls stop?
By registering a number, you can reduce the number of calls that you're likely to receive, but you will not stop tele-marketers altogether. Political groups, charities, and researchers are still free to give you a ring.
Companies that you call are also allowed, with certain limitations, to call you back. Even if you're in the do not call registry, once you buy something from a company, they have a legal right to call you for the next 18 months. If you simply call a company to inquire about a product or service, they're allowed to call you for the next 3 months.
